It has been a quiet and stable day for Sage and she is cruising right along, as only Sage knows how to do in her inimitable style! Her white blood count is within the range of normal, she is ridding herself of fluids in wonderful quantities, and she continues to hold stable with her numbers. Today was a quiet, steady day of rest, after a Saturday of Sage steadily working with the respiratory therapists to lower the numbers on the oscillator.
Before members of her family went home today for work and life - including Hilary and Tim, who have been here since the beginning - we held a singing circle around Sage, guided by Melinda, a friend of Hilary and Mark's from Baltimore, who is acquainted with Dartmouth College, is a professional singer and has a wonderfully soothing voice. We sang folksongs, hymns, songs of Peter, Paul and Mary, the Beatles, and a lovely lullaby as well. What do they say: singing is praying twice.
It was decided today by Sage's medical team that either tomorrow or Tuesday would be the day for the switch to the 'other' ventilator, as long as she continues holding steady and having such excellent numbers. Her color is good and she is resting. For today, right now, this moment, we have much to be thankful for.
Please continue to send your thoughts, prayers, positive energy and love, as you have so tirelessly, to Sage. We all appreciate it so very much, most especially Sage.

ReplyDeleteEach day I find myself thinking of Sage in almost every quiet moment. I was remembering Sage's determination to row crew during her last year at EBWS. She had to find a ride from El Sobrante to the BART station, catch a train all the way to Oakland, and run like mad to Lake Merritt in order to work her butt off in a grueling crew practice. Sage told me that she LOVED her team, and that strikes me as the essence of Sage--a wild idea, a fierce determination, and the decision to find love everywhere. Every day the news sounds better, and I am so relieved. Blessings, Sage.
